Think blogging is dead?
After all Blogging has already been around for staggering twenty years which means you could be forgiven for thinking it’s a saturated market.
And with millions of new blogs created every month is there really room to start a money making blog? I’m here to let you know the audience for blogs is now greater than ever before.
The historical peak for many blogs could be said to have been around 2006 to 2008 which is when blogging really took off. However, the key thing to remember about the internet is almost everything that happens online is part of a trend.
Blogging is no different. Like all trends over the last few decades, it has evolved considerably. So if you want to start a start a money-making blog in the blogging ecosystem today it is absolutely essential that your blog is more than just a Blog. Um Ok, but what does that actually mean?
Many successful bloggers now produce multimedia such as video blog posts, podcasts and additional content. They will also almost definitely operate mailing lists and create newsletters. They will also continually experiment with new trends and new technologies.
So is blogging dead? Most definitely not. In fact, the audience for blogging and new bloggers is growing faster than ever before. But to succeed in this competitive environment you should be prepared to take a diverse approach.
As far as I am concerned I always wanted to help other people but I never found the formal style of the education system suited my personality. Blogging, on the other hand, allows me to work for myself, decide when I work, the topic that I wish to talk about and the content that I would like to produce that I think has the most benefit to others.
But there are hundreds of other reasons to start a blog. if you think blogging might be right for you then check out my list of 9 top reasons that might help you decide whether or not this is something you want to try.
1. The Potential Of A Money Making Blog
My blog is about personal finance and money which is why we are starting with one of the most important reasons. Yes you can start a money making blog and yes producing content online gives you the potential to make an extra income. This might be something that you want to do in addition to your full-time job in order to create an income on the side, or what’s commonly known as a side hustle.
It’s also worth remembering that if you decide to start a money making blog you will be doing so because in some way you are adding value to someone else’s life. Ultimately you should only blog about products or services you value and respect, and in this scenario you can make recommendations to your audience and receive commissions for doing so. This is known as affiliate marketing. Depending on your topic you can also get freebies and other benefits. Travel bloggers, for example, often exchange their promotional reviews of hotels and resorts in return for free accommodation. That’s a pretty fantastic way to see the world and save money at the same time!
When you start a money making blog you are directly responsible for how much you make. In other words income is directly proportional, in many ways, to the amount of time and effort you put into your blog. I have found in my experience that when I worked for a company I usually worked extremely hard with no significant return at all. (I.e. I was paid very little for the amount of work that I did.)
The increase in your income, when blogging, can also increase exponentially. That’s because you have the aspect of scalability on your side. When you produce content on the internet it is accessible by anyone with an online connection, which means the entire world can benefit from your posts. Obviously there’s a bit more to it than that but the key takeaway is the potential for you to scale up your audience and scale up the amount of money that you can make.
2. To Inspire And Add Value
Blogging can be a fantastic way to make money but remember that it can only happen when you add value to other people’s lives. Part of adding value to other people’s lives can be achieved through inspiring and motivating your audience.
Inspiring people to change their lives can be one of the most satisfying outcomes of your blog. And when people respond to it in a positive way you will have the satisfaction of knowing that you have inspired other people to change their lives.
Fitness bloggers do this everyday by helping their readers to lose weight, become fit and achieve more control over their bodies. Food bloggers inspire their readers to.. Salivate? No, to produce amazing, tasty meals!
Personal Finance bloggers, such as myself, are aiming to inspire readers to take more control of their Personal Finance and explore all of the different ways for maximizing their income. It’s a great reason to blog because inspiring your audience can help people to:
It’s not an underestimation to say that bloggers do change people’s lives. You can too. And the best thing is that if you can combine your commitment and drive with a topic that will help and add value to other people’s lives then the ability for your blog to make money will reflect that. So if you decide to start a money making blog make sure you take that responsibility seriously.
3. To Keep Learning
One of the best things about blogging is that it can help you to learn so many new skills. In fact in order to be a great blogger you need to constantly be learning in order to keep your content up-to-date, relevant and inspirational.
There are also a number of other skills that are required in order for you to become a successful blogger.
4. Build A Brand!
One of the most popular reasons to start a money making blog is to create an online brand. This could be a brand that supports an existing brand in the real world or a new brand that helps to establish you as an authority in your niche. Your own expertise you will be adding value to your readers and will soon become a recognised authority in your chosen topic.
5. Make A Difference
A significantly rewarding aspects of building a blog is the potential for you to make a difference to someone else’s life. If you have experienced problems in your life; challenges that you have worked to hard overcome then I promise you that your experiences and the solutions you found will be useful to someone else.
There are potentially hundreds of thousands, if not millions of people around the world who are going through similar struggles to the ones you encountered. We’re not all so different and the challenges that life throws at us are, in many ways, universal.
LiveintheBeat.com is a blog that I started because I really struggled with money issues and personal finance in my 20s. It was only when I was able to educate myself seriously, take an interest in my own personal finance and start changing my life for the better that I managed to get control of my own personal money. In that process, I realised that so much of what we know about money is incorrect, or at the very best it’s been misrepresented to us in a way that prevents us from taking control.
And this is why I created this blog; to help other people take control, to help anyone who is interested to gain mastery over their money, instead of the opposite and to help them make their money work harder for them. By learning from my mistakes and exploring the opportunities that are available my hope is that I can help make a difference to someone else’s life.
6. To Create New Opportunities
Blogging can open up many opportunities for you because depending on the niche that you decide to work in there may be other companies, brands or individuals also operating in that niche that you want to collaborate with you. This, of course, comes once you gained a large and loyal readership. Fashion bloggers in particular often collaborate with brands and fashion companies in order to cross-promote their products and this in itself creates new opportunities for both brands and bloggers.
Blogging can open up new connections and amazing opportunities. You might get paid to promote a product that you already love or it could be a door into a new job opportunity. It could simply be meeting new people who share similar passions and interests. Whatever it is blogging will help you to create those opportunities.
7. Because You Can!
You should start a money making blog just because you can. Whilst this is probably not going to be your sole motivating reason, it’s nonetheless significant. After all how many other Generations before ours had the opportunity to publish themselves and their thoughts to the entire world? The opportunity is there and it’s yours for the taking. Remember it doesn’t come for free however and hard work, commitment and dedication is required.
8. You Will Become More Focussed
A requirement of publishing and producing online content on a regular basis is the need to be focused. Writing online content will help you to develop your focus as you will need to structure your blog and think about the way in which it adds value. It can also be lonely and in order for your blog to succeed you need to have a laserlike focus.
If you are committed to your site then over time you’ll become a much more focused individual. However it is important to note that creating a blog has its pros and cons and you need to assess those against the other priorities in your life. if you are able to commit yourself to your blog then it is essential that you remain focused on your topic, your mission and your audience. Always remember how you are adding value to their lives.
9. To Be Your Own Boss
Probably the single most important reason that motivated me to start a money making blog was to focus on my dream of being my own boss. For most of us, once they graduate from school we get a job and work in a company where we have a boss. Whether or not we get on with them is completely in the hands of the gods. That’s a pretty normal scenario. However in the time that I’ve worked for other people I have always dreamt of being my own boss. The office politics, personalities and upward people management that was required from working in an office but something that never sat right with me.
In fact for the 16 years I worked in an office I always dreamed of being my own boss. I used to hate the endless meetings that we would have to endure in order to discuss, rationalise and argue, the smallest of decisions. The layers of authority that individuals create, in order to justify their jobs, and the bureaucracy in the office environment is something I always found stifling. I truly believe that the modern office is a toxic environment that is bad for our relationships, our wellbeing and our physical health. Blogging enables you to be your own boss. How much you succeed is decided by how much time, energy and effort you contribute to your blog. When you work for yourself you are generally growing and learning in order to develop the skills required to improve and expand your online blog.
You have creative control, your working hours are set by yourself, and depending upon the success of your blog, you can work and travel around the world if you want.
Let’s Wrap It Up!
Producing content online is not easy, it can be difficult to start with and if you’re not sure where to start it can take time to workout your own personal direction. However, the biggest challenges that I found came not from the actual process of producing content online but from the expectations that my family, my friends and wider society have about what you should and shouldn’t do with your life.
The conventional thought processes that they had made me realise that the challenges we face, when it comes to choosing our own path, is not so much about the physical steps required to take a different path but about not meeting the expectations of the people that we have around us.
When you face down those challenges you can begin to see that your horizons will become much broader. When you’re your own boss and when you are in charge of the direction of travel you can create a rewarding and fun journey that helps you to progress and choose a lifestyle that’s more in keeping with your own personal values, hopes and dreams.
