Is Sweatcoin Legit? Get Paid to Exercise With This Ultimate Review

Getting paid to walk just sounds like it’s too good to be true.

Which is why when I read about Sweatcoin online I had to find out more. After all, I am a huge walker; I try to get outside every day for at least an hour so if there’s really an app that will reward you for those steps… then I’m game.

But I also want to take the time here to give you the complete insider info on this app. Is Sweatcoin legit? Is it a scam? Is it worth it, even though it’s free?

Let’s dive in.

Is Sweatcoin Legit?

Sweatcoin  is the fastest growing app in history. And with over 40m active users it regularly hits the number 1 spot in UK, UK and European App stores.

And in answer to the question is Sweatcoins legit? Yes, it’s a completely legitimate company and app.

So what’s all the hype about?

Sweatcoin, a company based in London, rewards users with it’s digital currency by giving you one ‘Sweatcoin’ for every 1,000 steps you walk or run whilst using the app.

Once you’ve saved up enough Sweatcoins you can trade them for real-life products, services and offers including workout and fitness gear, tech or experiences or charitable donations.

It’s even been endorsed by the British Journal of Sports Science:

“Sweatcoin has achieved sustainable physical activity behaviour change using a viable business model that can continuously reward its users for being active. Future public health organisations may benefit from establishing partnerships with the commercial sector to deliver sustainable incentive-driven programmes.”

British Journal of Sports Medicine

And Sweatcoin has been planning to grow this into a serious contender in the cryptocurrency space, claiming on it’s website that soon Sweatcoins will become a universally accepted form of payment.

So if you are asking yourself ‘is Sweatcoin legit?’ or are worried that Sweatcoin is a scam then you can rest assured that it’s an app created by a legitimate company. Sweatcoin claims ‘We want a healthier you on a healthier planet. We achieve this by converting your steps into a currency to spend on cool products and services.’

Whether or not the app is right for you depends on the reasons below and the expectations and goals that you set yourself.

Reasons To Use Sweatcoin

Do you want:

  • Access to free stuff
  • Discounts on your favourite brands, and popular products
  • A competitive edge to help you get fit
  • The chance to bid for high-ticket items using free Sweatcoins
  • The ability to cash in your Sweatcoins via PayPal

There are lots of different reasons to use Sweatcoin but let’s be honest most of us are probably here asking is Sweatcoins legit for one reason; that is to make money by walking, running and exercising.

If you want to get rich overnight than Sweatcoin is probably not going to make that happen, you can scroll down to the Reality Check List below to see why.

But if you like freebies, rewards, discounts, offers and the option to bid on high value auction items, such as a new iPhone, $1,000 cash via PayPal on a new Vanmoof Bike, then Sweatcoin is for you.

Here are some more reasons why you might enjoy using it:

Reason 1: Gamify Your Exercise

The idea of gamifying your exercise is not a new concept, but Sweatcoin is one of the first companies to take it to a whole new level by offering you rewards.

Games like Pokemon (remember that!?) encouraged people to get outside and exercise by embracing gamification, albeit by stealth, but Sweatcoin aims to introduce a more sustainable model. And it also does this by allowing you to create a community that includes your family and friends.

Reason 2: Compete with friends and family

Adding and inviting your family and friends allows you to build a Sweatcoin community and introduces the element of competition.

Plus, as a reward when you invite a friend you’ll get 5 Sweatcoins for each friend that joins by using your own unique link.

If you want to sign up right now and get 5 FREE Sweatcoins use my link here to get started.

Reason 3: Get offers, discounts and freebies with your favourite brands

There are hundreds of offers on Sweatcoin and these are growing every day.

If we’re asking ourselves is Sweatcoin legit than the number of partnerships also testify to it’s huge profile and reputation in the app-exercise-rewards space.

Sweatcoin works with over 300 partners, including many of your favourite brands, including fashion brands, popular restaurants, travel and adventure experiences, workout clothes, high spec tech and luxury products.

You will find new offers on the app daily, however before you exchange your hard won Sweatcoins just make sure you do a quick google search to check that the offer does represent a worthwhile discount as compared to what you would be paying via a standard retailer.

Reason 4: Donate and support good causes

Sweatcoin has also added the option to donate your coins to charity and not regularly features a number of charities on it’s app that allow you to do this.

It’s a form of crowdfunding under their initiative called Sweatcoin for Good and they publish all of their success stories on their blog right here.

Reason 5: Bid for Auction Prizes

Goods, services and experiences ranging from high-tech shoes to iPhones and from anti-gravity yoga classes to Apple Watches are available under regular auctions inside of the Sweatcoin app.

Several offers are made per week and as soon as they are up , Sweatcoin users can place a bid by clicking the “Raise Bid” button and selecting a higher bid.

Auctions last about 2 days, but have a countdown timer so you can be sure of when it will finish. When the timer reaches zero, the prize is allocated to the highest bidder. Prizes are delivered within 30 days.

Sweatcoin Reality Check

Sweatcoin won’t make You Rich

Sweatcoin won’t make you rich and you can’t directly exchange your Sweatcoins for cold hard cash. Is sweatcoin legit even though you can’t get cash in your ‘sweatcoins’ direct?

The secret is in building up your balance so that when those $1,000 gifts cards for amazon, PayPal or any of your other favourite brands like Zara or H&M, come along then you can trade your Sweatcoins and bid for them.

Plus, Sweatcoin state:

‘The long-term vision is to make Sweatcoin a fully fledged currency, that’ll be listed on exchanges. But don’t wait for this, please spend your Sweatcoins in the marketplace with our brand partners. Paypal and Amazon vouchers are featured regularly, especially if you are inviting loads of friends!’

Sweatcoin’s mission is to create a healthy planet and a healthy you – that alone is worth your time, remember there are no direct costs to you involved, so if you want to get fit and rewarded then give it a go!

Privacy Concerns

Sweatcoin has a comprehensive privacy policy that covers all aspects of the way it handles your data.

There have been concerns about privacy given the app accesses your phone’s GPS, but if we’re thinking about it’s use in relation to our question, is Sweatcoin legit, then in terms of your personal data, it’s safe to use and it only collects anonymous data.

You only have to provide your first name, and whilst it does ask for a phone number, that is so you can use the app and earn coins on your phone and it remains private.

How Do Sweatcoins Get Their value?

Is Sweatcoin legit even though you can’t use it like regular money?

Sweatcoin has ambitions to integrate long-term value into its currency via its stated goal of trading Sweatcoins for regular currency in the future.

Until then Sweatcoin state:

The value of a Sweatcoin is derived from our wide-reaching partnerships. From brands that want to connect with health conscious audiences, insurers wishing to encourage healthier lifestyle choices and governments looking to reduce healthcare costs. Innovative insurance companies are using Sweatcoin as an insurance distribution and a policyholder engagement platform. Sweatcoin helps users become +20% more active each day, even after 6 months — this has the potential to transform public health, by using Sweatcoin as a prevention tool for sustained behaviour change.

Does Sweatcoin drain battery life?

Probably one of the most important concerns for most users of Sweatcoin, including myself, is whether or not the app drains battery life.

I can only let you know what my experience is and the battery life of any phone is dependent on a  number of factors, including the phone’s age.

Remember you only need to have Sweatcoin open when you’re walking outside, so for the rest of the time you can close it.

If you want to check, on an iPhone, how much battery power Sweatcoin is using go to Settings and then tap Battery, scroll down and you’ll see Sweatcoin is on your list.

I found on my phone that it wasn’t the worst by a long-shot but it wasn’t the best, around the middle.

How To Use Sweatcoin

Download The App

The Sweatcoin App is available to download for both iPhones and Android. And it’s free.

Part of the beauty of Sweatcoin is that it won’t cost you anything. So it’s impossible to lose money on Sweatcoin. The worst that can happen is you spend a little time figuring out the app, playing the bonus games and checking your steps.

And considering how much time we all spend on our phones it’s not such a big concern.

Get Outside and Exercise

Once you’ve got the app on the phone, you’ll need to let it run in the background (otherwise it won’t work) and then get outside and start exercising.

When you walk, Sweatcoin will use your phone’s GPS to monitor how many outdoor steps you take and it will reward you with 1 Sweatcoin for every 1,000 steps.

Remember the goal is to build up your Sweatcoins over time, so you will not make thousands of Sweatcoins overnight and it may take a while to get a decent amount. But the app is free, it’s not costing you anything, all you need to do is let it do its thing, forget about it, and when you check back you might have a nice surprise.

Please note: Sweatcoin calculates distance covered so presently it only works in the gym. Sweatcoin is looking into this but for the moment, only steps walked outside will be counted.

7 Ways To Build up you Sweatcoin balance

The main method you will build up your Sweatcoin balance is simply by walking.

But there are loads of other ways that you can also contribute to your Sweatcoin bottom line.

When you first download the app you are automatically subscribed to the basic version called Mover subscription but this has a cap on the amount of Sweatcoins you can earn in a day and is currently set at 5. If you want to earn more than that you can upgrade.

Here are the details.

Sweatcoin Pricing Structure:

  • Mover subscription | Cost: FREE | SWC cap: 5 Sweatcoins, 5,000 steps per day
  • Shaker subscription | Cost: 4.75 SWC per month  | SWC cap: 10 Sweatcoins, 10,000 steps per day
  • Quaker subscription | Cost: 20 SWC | SWC cap: 15 Sweatcoins, 15,000 steps per day
  • Trouble Maker subscription | Cost: $0.99 | Sweatcoin cap: 50 Sweatcoins, 5,000 steps per day

Remember, with the exception of Trouble Maker, you’re not actually paying real money to upgrade your subscription to the next level. The Sweatcoin charge just gets deducted from your overall balance, so it’s worth figuring out how many steps you’ll be taking each day and choosing your plan accordingly.

I use the Shaker subscription because on average I walk between 10,000 to 15,000 steps per day (I really like getting outside!)

I can’t quite believe how some people would walk 50,000 steps per day, that would take me hours and hours, but I guess they do because otherwise this level-up option wouldn’t exist.

Earn Daily Boosts

One of the easiest ways to boost your Sweatcoin balance, whilst walking, is to open the Daily 2x Boost in the app during your walk. Under the Shaker subscription for 20 minutes every day you can get double the amount of Sweatcoins from your steps:

Watch In-App Ads

You can add extra Sweatcoins for free by claiming your daily bonuses, which gives you 3 chances a day to win anything from 0-1,000 Sweatcoins simply by watching a short ad.

To be completely honest I usually hit play on the ad then put the phone back in my pocket whilst it plays.

You hit play and the a wheel of fortune style graphic will spin whilst the app determines how many Sweatcoins you’ll get. Keep an eye on your balance in the top right to see your wallet get updated.

The first daily bonus is available to watch immediately, but to unlock the other 2 daily bonuses, you must walk 500 extra steps to unlock each bonus. Once done you can watch a 30 second ad to receive a randomly generated prize of anything from 0 – 1000 Sweatcoins.

Invite Friends

You can also earn extra Sweatcoins by inviting programmes to try the app. You’ll get 5 Sweatcoins per friend referred – and your friend will also receive 5 free Sweatcoins.

Spend Your Sweatcoins

So what are the kinds of things you can buy using Sweatcoins?

As the app’s focus is on walking and fitness most of the offers, services and products will relate to nutrition, beauty, health, fitness and wellbeing. But this is not set in stone and other offers, including tech, do show up.

The Sweatcoin app home screen is divided into four sections where you can spend your Sweatcoins:

  • Now Trending: popular offers trending on the app
  • Pay with Sweatcoins: buy physical products outright with your Sweatcoin balance
  • Digital offers: pay for digital, online products with your Sweatcoin balance
  • Physical products: get massive discounts on physical products with your Sweatcoins
  • Auctions: bid for high-ticket, luxury items (requires a high Sweatcoin balance)
  • Sweatcoin for good: donate your Sweatcoin to support good causes

And here are what those sections look like on the app:

Should You Download Sweatcoin?

In my opinion the app is free, there hasn’t been a noticeable effect on battery life and it provides rewards for my steps, which as someone who likes to walk, is a pretty good deal.

So when it comes to the question, is Sweatcoin legit? it’s really down to you to check it out for yourself. I love using Sweatcoin and I’m more than happy to leave the Sweatcoin app running in the background, whilst exercising, let my balance build up and then use it to buy something really worthwhile – I’m keeping one eye on the auctions!

Whether or not you should download it is up to you – but if you’re wondering ‘is Sweatcoin legit’ then I hope this in depth review has reassured you and given you some idea of the pros and cons.

The way I see it is that you’ve got nothing to lose but tracking steps and getting rewarded for them could really help motivate you to a fitter lifestyle and a better understanding of your fitness levels and how to improve them:

Sweatcoin might not be for you or it might really help kick up your fitness levels a gear; you won’t know unless you try it. I love walking so it’s a natural addition to my phone and I really recommend that you give it ago.

Remember, it’s FREE, you’ve got nothing to lose, except weight, and you’ll never know how fit you could get or what rewards you might receive unless you try it.
